No more raccoons

Guenther was pretty sure that the raccoons had moved out of the chimney, but we hired chimney sweeps to double check. They agreed that the raccoons had left, so Guenther installed chimney caps to prevent their re-entry.

Raccoons, General Conference, and Beautiful Big Cottonwood Canyon

Guenther and I visited Uncle Scott Crabtree in a Brigham City nursing home last month. He's doing a great job of keeping busy...reads a lot. He told us that the nursing home had entered a float in the Brigham City Peach Days parade earlier in the month. They had a "queen" and "king" on their float, and Uncle Scott was pleased that they asked him to be the king.

Meanwhile...back at the country-house...we are still working on those pesky raccoons. Guenther is using a hand mirror to reflect enough light down the chimney in an effort to see if they've gone.
This a shot of Guenther trimming limbs from the apple tree...we know that's how the raccoons are climbing back and forth to the roof.
A shot of the empty raccoon trap. Steve Bates across the street was able to trap three so far, but the mother and father are too smart.

We enjoyed watching the Sunday afternoon session of conference in David's theater room. Matt, Lindsay and the kids came also. Kai gets cuter all the time.

Mike was working on a painting of the mountains. He's not taking a class or anything...just doing it for fun.
Summer is keeping an eye on Kai.
Tami fixed her delicious barbecued beef in the slow cooker.

On Monday, we took a drive into Big Cottonwood Canyon to see the fall colors.

A busy two weeks

I was assigned to do the decorations for our Relief Society Fall Enrichment Activity held week before last. I wanted to use fall leaves, so we drove into Millcreek Canyon to see if we could find any. No luck. The leaves hadn't changed color yet. I ended up using artificial leaves and flowers, and it turned out really pretty.

We also helped Nancy move that week. Guenther is carrying a box into her new home which is located on the street behind the one where she was living. Really neat...they stayed in the same ward. Summer is modeling a hat that I gave her. I bought that hat for Easter 45 years ago when I was expecting her mom. Mike gives me a smile as he helps. I got a shot of Tami unloading their truck. She and David and Jordan worked super hard.

Our neighbor in West Point called to tell us that they spotted five racoons climbing into the chimney on the house there. Guenther is checking the chimney in this shot. We picked up a trap from the animal control, and our neighbor is baiting it for us, and calling Animal Control when they trap one. So far they've taken care of three of the critters.

We celebrated our two-year anniversary on the 15th of September by eating at a classy little Italian restaurant. The food was pricey, and the chef used more salt than we liked, but we enjoyed the atmosphere out on the patio in the lovely fall evening.

Laboring on Labor Day

David's family and Nancy and the girls came to West Point on Labor Day and picked up our John Deere tractor lawnmower and hauled it in their trailor to the shop for repair in Salt Lake . They also attempted to help me get rid of some old records of Booth's by burning them in the fire pit in the park. I say "attempted" because David was right. He warned me ahead of time that it probably wouldn't work because it's no easy task to burn paper. We did half, and I'll shred the remainder.

Birthday Bash

On Saturday, the 30th of August, Bob and Genie threw a cool party to celebrate David's 4th and Emma's 1st birthdays. They held it at Sugar House Park and invited friends and family to join in the fun.

This bounce-y train that Genie rented for the kids to play on was a big hit.
Emma was cute in her "First Birthday" hat.
And David looked great in his Sesame Street shirt. He's a very big Sesame Street fan.
Lindsey looked like she was having a great time helping to keep track of Emma...who now walks and runs all over the place.

Jackie, Jeannine, and a soon-to-be mommy Krissie.
Bob helps Landon with his pinata attempt.Emily is set to smash it.
David and his dad are watching the party from a distance. All the noise and gaiety seemed a little overwhelming for David. He had a ball running around the grassy hill with his dad in tow.
Here's a shot of Kyle, Brad, and Brent...sorry that I caught Guenther with his eyes closed.

This one with Richard is a better.
Emma was able to capture some attention from Amalie, who followed Emma as she scurried out into the park area.
Rich and Sarah play a little badminton.
A shot of the party-goers digging in to all the good eats.

David appreciates his dad.
