We Have A New College Graduate

Jennifer Kaye received her diploma from the Westminster School of Nursing today, Saturday the 31st of May. Last night Guenther and I attended the Pinning Ceremony where she was officially "pinned." In the past, nurses uses to wear white caps which signified the school they had attended, and those have been replaced with distinctive pins.

The Graduate. We are so proud of her...nursing is a tough course of study, but she stuck with it. Way to go, Jen!
After the program we ate at the Lion House. Tami's mom and dad, Donna and Charles Ogle, flew down from Seattle for the occasion.

This is a fun shot. I'm sure glad that those stiletto heels are being worn by Jen and her friends, and not by me. My feet hurt just looking at them. (The white ones belong to Jen).
Jen's graduation present...she says it's going to be great on the snow and ice when she heads to the snowboarding slopes next winter.

Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday

These shots were taken at the temple after our weekly session.

I love these flower boxes hanging on the walls behind the temple.

We stayed in West Point on Wednesday and Thursday and worked 'til we dropped. Guenther hooked up the air conditioner, adjusted sprinklers, trimmed weeds, mowed lawns, pruned trees, and mixed up spray for me to use. I cleaned the inside of the house and sprayed vegetation killer under the deck and on the gravel parking spot and along the fence line. I planned to drop by Lindsay's on the way home so I could get some hugs, but we were totally exhausted. It took us until noon on Friday to recuperate...guess we're getting old.
Look how the trees around the Suzuki place have grown.

Memorial Day Weekend

On Saturday we drove to Morgan to have dinner with our friends at the Spring Chicken Inn. Really great fried chicken at a good price. Here are some shots of the lovely scenery that day. As usual, I do love to take photos of beautiful clouds and blue skies.

In this shot Guenther stands outside the Spring Chicken Inn.

On the way home, we took flowers to the Crabtree grave sites. Booth's parents and four brothers are buried there. Gordon's grave is in Auburn, and Scott, of course, is still living. The Washington Heights cemetery was already beautiful on Saturday evening.
I believe that we were the first ones in the family to visit the cemetery. Tami said that they went on Sunday. We were happy that we didn't wait until Memorial Day, because it was so rainy.

Then, we visited Marcelle's grave. She is buried in the Elysian Gardens near our home. Bob was there before us, and he placed the American and French flags there. On Sunday evening we visited the Salt Lake Cemetary where Guenther's parents and siblings are buried. The tall white headstone belongs to President McKay.
This is Wolfgang's grave. He was killed in Normandy in World War II. Guenther says that Wolfgang was an exceptional person...good at everything he tried...a terrible loss for his family.
Guenther places flowers on his parents' grave.
Gilbert's headstone. Gilbert was crippled by polio before the Salk vaccine. He was a very bright, studious man.
Guenther's sister, Judith, died early in infancy. His mother was devastated at the loss of her only daughter, and about once a week she would walk quite far in order to take the bus from their home in West Salt Lake to visit Judy's grave.
Guenther's grandparents.
President and Sister Hinckley are buried nearby.

Sorry for all the blank space. I try to vary the position of my pictures, and the published version looks different from the composing one. Wish I knew the trick to doing it right.

We tended David and Emma this past Thursday while Genie and Bob met with school officials to set up a program for David's schooling next year.

Grandpa and Emma watch Sesame Street together.
David entertains himself with some of his toys.
Grandpa takes a little snooze.
Where's my mommy?
I really need her now.
My grandpa loves me!

We also did our weekly thing in West Point. I'm wondering if Jed, Melissa, Lindsay, and Matt recall giving me this birdhouse for one of the holidays.

This house used to be the Denhalters...remember, it was next door to the chapel. When the church bought the land for a bigger parking lot, a new owner moved the house to the Dyson property across the street from us.
As I say every week, we really appreciate our John Deere mower.

This is a shot of the old Mattie Harris home. These people have been remodeling for about 20 years, I believe.

Family Party for month of May at Brad and Jackie's

Here are a few fun shots that I took on Sunday evening when we went to Jackie's. Brad barbecued delicious burgers and franks, and as always, the food was great.

It was fun to see how much Ella Marcelle has grown since we last saw her.
