Our Trip To Arches National Park
We drove to Moab for a visit to Arches National Park on Thursday, November 1st, and we had a lovely time..we wanted to try out the new Altima.. It drives like a dream..We each drive about an hour and then change off. When he was at the wheel, Guenther kept saying, "I really really do like this car. " I have changed the settings on my little Canon SD 1000, and I am pleased with the results. Here are some photos of our trip.
Here we are on the trail leading up the Delicate Arch Viewpoint. The viewpoint is not the same as taking the trail to the arch. That one is too strenuous for us, but this was perfect. Another hiker took this shot for us.

I used the magnification to get this photo.
In this photo Guenther is standing beneath a huge formation.
This is a shot of the formation's top.
I took this shot by kneeling in front of two rocks leaning against each other.

This fascinating formation is one of the first that you see when you enter the Park.

Monthly Stoll Family Birthday Celebration held at Jackie and Brad's
Here are a few photos that I shot last night at Jackie's. I believe that Renee will enjoy them. As usual, the food was terrific. Jackie fixed a wonderful beef pot-roast. Everyone else furnished the trimmings, and we had a yummy evening.
Jackie is such a great hostess!
David has a birthday this week.

Brad gives Avery a teddy-bear hug.
David gazes longingly through the railing at the front door out of which he wants to run at the first opportunity. The child-gate at the top of the stairs kept him safely inside.
Krissie and Kyle.
Ryan and Brad love little Emma.

Brent gives David an upside down lift...which David loves. The lovely yellow roses were given to Jackie and Brad by his dad who works for a florist.

A Very Big Happening This Week
On Monday, Oct. 22nd, we got our precious little great-grandson: Kaiyan (rhymes with Ryan) Matthew. He weighed in at a whopping 11 pounds 12 ounces and was 22 .5 inches long. Here's our latest Four Generation Photo taken on his second day of life. Lindsay had him at the Birthing Center, and she and Matt brought him home just a few hours after his birth. Lindsay is remarkable.
Uncle Jed holds his new nephew.
I love taking photos of cloud formations. This shot was taken along I-15 by the Layton Hills Mall.

Emalise sings"Praise to the Man" last verse
Matt sings hymns to his little daughters at bedtime each night, and Emalise knows many of them now by heart. We were at their home last night, and she started singing, so I grabbed my camera.

sunday
The past week has just flown by. We did errands on Monday, and Tuesday was our usual temple day. Wednesday was my morning with Lindsay's little daughters, and then on Wednesday afternoon I taught my relief society lesson to the sisters at the Chateau Brickyard retirement home. The lesson was about "the women of the church," and I asked for some stories about the mothers of those present. Thelma told us about how her mother came from Germany as a nine-year- old ...all alone because the family could afford to send only one person. She sailed on the same ship as the missionaries, but they had passage on the deck above her, so she didn't see them during the trip. When she came to Salt Lake, she boarded with a family and tended sheep in return for her keep. She never went to school, but she learned English, and went on to marry and live her dream which was to rear children in Zion. I love Thelma...she's in her late 80's or early 90's and has a strong testimony of the gospel. She teases me about how she has her eye on my cute husband. (I guess that since she's German, she's attracted to those good-looking German guys)
On Thursday we went to Brigham City and visited with Uncle Scott and Doris. I have already mentioned that Scott has a palsy which makes his mouth open and close continuously...however, he seems to feel fine otherwise. Doris is such an inspiration. She really does love Scott and takes good care of him...arriving at the nursing home around nine a.m. and staying until suppertime. She has fixed up his room nicely...with a colorful bedspread and accessories. He had some photos posted on his bulletin board, and I enjoyed one which was taken in May when the whole family was together to celebrate Cydney's birthday. Even Chelle had come over from Hawaii. She and Cydney have changed from the last time that I recall being with them. Neal looks exactly the same, and Rayma and Rohn look a bit older, but not much change. I know that both Scott and Beryl, who was also there, were thrilled to be with all their kids once more.
Today, Sunday, Oct. 14th, we attended sacrament meeting in David and Nancy's ward. Nancy had been assigned a short talk on "the pure love of Christ." (It was short because she was on the program with a young sister's mission farewell.) Nance did a great job, and we all appreciated her talk.
I snapped this photo of Nancy and Guenther outside the chapel after her talk. Doesn't she look relieved and happy?
We ran over to Nancy's house for a second, and while we were there, she showed us the battery operated spider that the girls bought for Halloween to hang over the front door.
The spider just hangs there until someone yells "trick or treat." Then it slowly begins to descend. I can already hear the screams.
In Sandy, the clouds were casting a white mist on top of the mountain this morning.Guenther says it reminds him of Switzerland.
This is a shot of the Jordan River temple as we drove west on 9400 South heading home after hearing Nancy speak.

Tuesday at the Temple
Today, Tuesday, was our regular day at the Salt Lake Temple where Guenther has an assignment.
Here Guenther stands by the beautiful reflecting pool. Remember when this used to be part of Main street? We love the peaceful change that came when the church purchased and landscaped this area.
Some of the gorgeous fall flowers in the gardens in the Church Office Square.
I like this shot of a photographer snapping pics of some newlyweds.
The sun was just right for this view of the temple.
