September Get-together at Jackie's
The Latest with the Millcreek/West Pointers
We celebrated our third wedding anniversary last week. We appreciate so much the blessing of having one another to love and support . Does Guenther look a little thin? We've been to the Emergency Room at the VA Hospital three times this past month. Each visit took place around 3 a.m. when Guenther was cramping and vomiting violently. Tests reveal a blockage in his gall bladder, and he's having it removed on Friday. Meanwhile, we are watching his diet..no fats, meats (except fat-free white chicken/turkey), beans, onions, cabbage, or cheese.
Jackie's husband, Brad, is going to tear down Booth's old shop for us tomorrow. I've had the big Box-Elder and Elm trees cut down. It looks more forlorn than ever.

I noticed that my pottery planter was becoming chipped, so when we took out the petunias this past week in order to plant pansies, I turned the planter around. The next morning I discovered that the newspaper was the culprit. Our carrier throws it onto the porch each morning where it was knocking the paint off the pot. Now I protect it with a chair each night.

Guenther's zuchinni plants have really been beautiful this year. We've had zuchinni brownies, cookies, brown sugar bars, and, yummiest of all , zuchinni potage and ratatouille (spelled wrong).

the fans and the players

These are shots of the volley ball game after we got through eating last Sunday night. (See next post). That little Kai loves his Aunt Nancy. He shadowed her all evening, and came to me once for a second, but he looked sad and when I asked him if he wanted to go back to Nancy, he eagerly said "Yes!"
Eating and Greeting

We had a fun time Sunday evening when the Crabtrees and the Stolls came to West Point to celebrate Renee's and Nancy's birthdays and eat barbequed pork and volley ball. I was a bit concerned at first, when the party started because, at 5 p.m., the sun was pretty hot. But by the time they were through eating, the volley ball players were able to have a great game out in the pasture.

Driving up to Girls' Camp and Picking up Matt
We had a great time driving up to Girls' Camp last Thursday afternoon with the Zunkowski's. The Stake Young Women were tent camping up at Aspencrest in the Uinta's above Woodland. The girls fed us a great navajo taco dinner, and the Zunkowski's provided their traditional requested cheesecake with strawberries and whipped cream. After we came home that evening, it rained really hard, and all of the girls and the two leaders got wet inside their tents...but they said that they still had a good time.

We dropped off their van to Matthew Olenslager and Ellyn Mae and Kaiyan at the airport this morning. Matt is the bravest man I know. In order to get the best price on airline tickets, he came on one flight with Ellyn (4) and Kai (1?) while Lindsay is flying on a different flight with Emalise. Kai was so darling. He held out his arms for me to take him, and he proceded to tell me all about Alaska.."Bryce...truck...where's Grandma Lisa?...water... where's Grandma Lisa?" and he likes to point out and say "Guenther." And Ellyn was happily concentrating on a book with stickers...good planning, parents.
I guess I really should think about getting a hearing aid. In the temple today, a sister smiled and said to me, "we're happy you're here." As I stared questioningly at her, she repeated herself, so I told her that I thought she had said "what happened to your hair?" There were two other ladies sitting there at the recording desk, and we all had a good laugh. One of the sisters said, "we're rude, but not THAT rude."

two weeks
Last Monday evening we enjoyed watching Katherine and Cameron unwrap their wedding gifts.
David, Tami, Michael, and Katherine are driving a rental truck and Kat's car to South Carolina. Cameron had to fly back earlier.
Big Plans: Bob and Genie are going to move into our home in Millcreek, and we're going to move to West Point. I'm starting with our books. Note the fan. This summer has been so hot that the upstairs feels like an oven. We drive up in the evening, sleep in the basement, and run the swamp cooler all night so that the house is cool in the morning.
A big windstorm last week blew these apples out of our tree in West Point.
Last Friday we stained the deck...as you can see, it has been needing it.
Guenther is scraping so that I can start staining. His birthday was Friday the 31st, and all of his kids and nearly all of his grandkids in the area met over at his son, David's, house to celebrate on the following Sunday. It was really nice, and I was sorry that I forgot my camera.
I took this shot from the back door early Saturday morning. This scene is why I love West Point.
Nancy and the girls flew in from Alaska this morning. They had a great time, and even the moose cooperated and wandered into Lisa's yard while they were there. Toby was happy to see his family again. We've had him for 2 1/2 weeks. He's an obedient little dog, and today after he left with his family, Guenther and I both remarked that we felt "someone missing."
