Driving up to Girls' Camp and Picking up Matt

We had a great time driving up to Girls' Camp last Thursday afternoon with the Zunkowski's. The Stake Young Women were tent camping up at Aspencrest in the Uinta's above Woodland. The girls fed us a great navajo taco dinner, and the Zunkowski's provided their traditional requested cheesecake with strawberries and whipped cream. After we came home that evening, it rained really hard, and all of the girls and the two leaders got wet inside their tents...but they said that they still had a good time.

We dropped off their van to Matthew Olenslager and Ellyn Mae and Kaiyan at the airport this morning. Matt is the bravest man I know. In order to get the best price on airline tickets, he came on one flight with Ellyn (4) and Kai (1?) while Lindsay is flying on a different flight with Emalise. Kai was so darling. He held out his arms for me to take him, and he proceded to tell me all about Alaska.."Bryce...truck...where's Grandma Lisa?...water... where's Grandma Lisa?" and he likes to point out and say "Guenther." And Ellyn was happily concentrating on a book with stickers...good planning, parents.

I guess I really should think about getting a hearing aid. In the temple today, a sister smiled and said to me, "we're happy you're here." As I stared questioningly at her, she repeated herself, so I told her that I thought she had said "what happened to your hair?" There were two other ladies sitting there at the recording desk, and we all had a good laugh. One of the sisters said, "we're rude, but not THAT rude."

two weeks

Last Monday evening we enjoyed watching Katherine and Cameron unwrap their wedding gifts.
David, Tami, Michael, and Katherine are driving a rental truck and Kat's car to South Carolina. Cameron had to fly back earlier.

Big Plans: Bob and Genie are going to move into our home in Millcreek, and we're going to move to West Point. I'm starting with our books. Note the fan. This summer has been so hot that the upstairs feels like an oven. We drive up in the evening, sleep in the basement, and run the swamp cooler all night so that the house is cool in the morning.

A big windstorm last week blew these apples out of our tree in West Point.

Last Friday we stained the deck...as you can see, it has been needing it.

Guenther is scraping so that I can start staining. His birthday was Friday the 31st, and all of his kids and nearly all of his grandkids in the area met over at his son, David's, house to celebrate on the following Sunday. It was really nice, and I was sorry that I forgot my camera.

I took this shot from the back door early Saturday morning. This scene is why I love West Point.

Nancy and the girls flew in from Alaska this morning. They had a great time, and even the moose cooperated and wandered into Lisa's yard while they were there. Toby was happy to see his family again. We've had him for 2 1/2 weeks. He's an obedient little dog, and today after he left with his family, Guenther and I both remarked that we felt "someone missing."

Katherine's wedding

Katherine was married to Cameron Udy at the LaCaille on Tuesday, the 21st of July. It was very well planned and very beautiful.

The bride's make up is applied in the Bride's Room. And chairs are ready outside.

A beautiful setting.

Jen and Summer. And all the bridesmaids.

Drew, Summer, and McCall show off their shoes...And the Mother of the Bride.

Nancy, Lindsay and Matt O. And Summer, Drew and McCall
at the luncheon after the ceremony.

Guenther helps himself to the French pastries at the reception,
and Lindsay's kids were there too.

I thought that the Father of the Bride did a great job. He made
some remarks at the luncheon that I liked. He quoted, "Marriage is
not about finding the perfect person...it's finding a special person
and seeing them perfectly."

My favorite photo of the wedding. Kath was a radiant
bride.

Stoll Family Get-together and Picking Apricots

On Sunday evening we had our monthly Stoll get-together at Jackie's. Kordell was in town, so it was great to have nearly everyone there. We missed Amalie who was working and the Bargers.

The photo below is of Guenther and Ryan, Jackie's youngest. He's catching up with his grandpa. Ryan's been invited to participate in a national basketball tournament. He'll be a sophomore in the fall, so he's doing very well.

Rich and his family came over last weekend and picked apricots. Guenther's tree was loaded.

Getting things done in West Point

We spent a couple of days in West Point last week. In this photo, Guenther is unhitching David's trailer from the pickup. We were able to load up the pile of limbs and branches and haul them to the dump.

Lindsay brought the kids over to pick some apricots. They're eating a little picnic supper in this photo. We had planned to stay in West Point until Saturday afternoon, and then we planned to drive to Morgan to have fried chicken with the Whitings and Metzlers. But Guenther woke up around 1 a.m. Saturday morning with terrible stomach pain and vomiting. So I drove us to the emergency room in the VA hospital in Salt Lake where they checked to rule out a heart attack. His heart was okay, but we don't really know what's going on. He's going in again for further tests.

4th of July

Our ward scouts place flags in the yard on each holiday. It's wonderful. Last night on the 3rd, the community of South Salt Lake had their gala fireworks display at Granite High, and I persuaded Guenther to take me over to our Stake Center's parking lot. We had a great view of the fireworks which were awesome and escaped any problems with traffic. I loved it.

On Friday, Guenther and I picked cherries in West Point, so we bottled some on Saturday. They're Queen Annes, and generally are wormy, but for some reason this year even though they've not been sprayed, they're worm-free, and we can use them.

Terry, Lisa, and Logan drove home from Lake Powell on the 4th, ( the rest of the family will be home today..the 5th), and we drove them to the airport to catch their plane home. They had a great time on the houseboat. What a vacation they've had...hiking in Zion's, seeing Grand Canyon, family reunions, visiting GramPeachie, camping in Yellowstone, and almost a week at Lake Powell. We are so lucky that they can fly to the lower 48 as often as they've been able to during these past twenty or so years.

Nancy gave a bridal shower for Katherine on Monday night. Since Katherine has loved acting in plays, Nancy's theme of "Broadway" was very appropriate. Each invitation asked the guest to choose a gift associated with a particular broadway play or musical. Mine said "Fiddler on the Roof," so I purchased a little milk can from Michael's and put money in it.."If I Were A Rich Man." Tammy had "Wicked," and the vacuum that she gave to Katherine really did look like the witch in the "Wicked" advertisements. It turned out really fun, and I know that Katherine was pleased. Her wedding date is July 21st, and her nieces are as excited as she is.
