Tami and Mike and his buddy flew in today from Anaheim where they spent a couple of days with David before Dave attends meetings there later this week. Jennifer is excited about her upcoming trip to Costa Rica with friends.

my valentine gift arrived

This week they delivered the print, "The Second Coming" which Guenther bought me for Valentine's Day. I have always loved this print, and it was a wonderful gift. We are heading for the pool, so he's holding his swimsuit rolled up in his towel. I am glad that we can work out this way since swimming doesn't bother his arthritis.

The stovepipe in front of the painting reminds me somewhat of an object lesson. I am thinking that, just as the pipe keeps us from seeing the Savior even though he is there in the painting, so we sometimes focus on things which prevent us from seeing the Savior's hand in our lives, even though he is there for us if we will look for him.

Bird Watching

While I was watching the g i r l s on Monday, I looked out and saw this beautiful bird. From the photos which I studied on the web, I believe that it was a goshawk. I grabbed my camera and took these photos of the hawk eating what I believe to be a starling.

Exciting News in the Weight Family

Guess who's engaged! Bryce proposed to Rachel on Valentine's Day, and they will be married in August. I am so happy for them. Rachel is really cool. I took these photos last year at Bryce's graduation.

tending those cute little olenslagers

On President's Day, Matt had the day off, so he and Lindsay went van hunting, and I got to tend the g i r ls.

I enjoyed eavesdropping as they played together. At one point, Ema was in the sunroom and called out to Ellyn who was in the kitchen. Ellyn replied, "ugly stepmother." Then Ema called, "No! We are not playing Cinderella! Say 'yes, Martha.' Then Ellyn muttered without enthusiam "es, marfa."

Emalise shows the puzzle she is working. The little rocking chair in the background bit the dust during the party Sunday night, and there it lies waiting to be put in the garbage.

latest pics of david and emma stoll

Bob and Eugenie came over on Sunday night, and I snapped these photos of the kids and Guenther for any of his family who may look at my blog.

David loves to sing action songs. Here he is doing the "move on back" gesture from "The Wheels on the Bus."

He still has a thing for playing with doors...opening and shutting them..."making something happen."

Emma gives us a big smile.
Her grandpa enjoys holding Emma. She sat contentedly on his lap during the whole visit.

Here Emma is smiling at her mom. Isn't she a doll?

another week...

We've had lots of snow and cold weather during this past week. Yesterday, my neighbor in West Point phoned to say that the snow is piling up on the roof of the house. She wanted me to know in case I thought it needed to be shoveled off. We plan to drive there tomorrow, Saturday, and take a look at things, but today the sun came out, so hopefully, a lot has melted off.

Along with some other members of the ward, I worked at the Deseret Manufacturing Co. last Thursday, stuffing pillowcases with batting. This is a facility which not only makes beds, mattresses and pillows for sale at the D.I., but it is also for training people so that they can get gainful employment elsewhere. Along with other employees, there were two young women from Somalia. Muslims, wearing their headscarves, who will be working there for one year. They receive a wage, and rent an apartment, and one of the ladies told us that after the year is up, she will be returning to Ohio. She spoke little English, and that's one of the things that she's learning. I think it's wonderful how the Church reaches out in humanitarian service to others not of our faith. And some people say that we are not Christian.

Guenther and I enjoyed watching the Super Bowl. I don't understand football all that well, but I liked watching it with him. Our favorite saying is "life is good."

"Life is Good."

I am flying to London next month to see Matthew as Capt. Von Trapp in the "Sound of Music." I feel like the long air ride would be quite painful for Guenther with his back problems, so I will be going by myself, but I've done that before, so that's no problem. I'm really looking forward to seeing Doug and Mary Ann and the kids.
